Local Wildlife:

Pheasants and Francolins, alongside the roads everywhere

Wild Turkeys, seen on the Kaluakoi Golf Course, and walking through the condominium complex on a daily basis. You can throw bread crumbs from the lanai and they will come running.

Mongoose, darting from one side of the road to the other. We call them “ground missles”

Honu, Green Sea Turtles, frequently seen feeding on marine plants.

Hawksbill Turtles, critically endangered.

Hawaiian Monk Seals, sometimes we catch one sunning himself on Kepuhi Beach in the afternoons.

Axis Deer, given as a gift to King Kamehameha V in the 1860’s. Listen for their high-pitched barking sound at night, sometimes it wakes us up! You might also catch a glimpse of them at night grazing on the grass off the lanai. We’ve actually heard them pulling up the sweet grassy snack!

Red Crested Cardinals, they visit the lanai for bread crumbs or cooked rice. Our boys have even gotten them to eat out of their hands.

Geckos, these island lizards bring good luck. You can sometimes hear them chirp. Not to worry, they have no teeth!

Humpback Whales (seasonal Dec – May)
